Perkasa Youth has sent a memorandum to the Keeper of the Royal Seal and the Conference of Rulers against Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad, for saying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is 'Malaysian Official 1'.

This despite the apology by Nawawi yesterday, which Perkasa Youth chief Irwan Fahmi Ideris says was "insincere".

"This should be a lesson to all parliamentarians not to be insolent towards the Agong," he told Malaysiakini.

Irwan Fahmi said the apology was "insincere" because the Umno MP only apologised after facing a barrage of criticism.

 "Nawawi is rude. Whether or not he apologises is not the issue. Secondly, would the Yang di-Pertuan Agong forgive him?

"It was incredibly insolent. The Agong is the head of state, so Nawawi as an elected parliamentarian should not have done what he did," Irwan Fahmi said.

Nawawi yesterday apologised for saying the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the 'Malaysian Official 1' in the US Department of Justice's lawsuit to seize 1MDB-linked assets.

He said this in a comment in Facebook, which he later amended.

He also defended his comment by saying that he meant 'Malaysian Official Number 1' and not 'Malaysian Official 1'.

The day before his apology, Nawawi posted flowcharts on Facebook to argue that the Agong is 'Malaysian Official Number 1', in accordance with the Federal Constitution.

According to the DOJ, 'Malaysian Official 1' is a high-ranking Malaysian official who received US$731 million originating from 1MDB.

'Malaysian Official 1' is also described as a relative of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's stepson Riza Aziz.

Those named in the forfeiture lawsuit are Riza, Malaysian businessman Jho Low and former Abu Dhabi-based government officials Mohammed Ahmed al-Badawy al-Husseiny and Khadem al-Qubaisi.

Najib has consistently denied abusing private funds and urged those identified by name in the suit to clear their names.

The government has also vowed action against those proven guilty of swindling 1MDB funds, although attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali says there is no evidence of misappropriation of 1MDB funds.

The DOJ did not identify 'Malaysian Official 1' by name in its civil forfeiture claim as it is bound by law to name only those whose assets it wants to seize.

It is seizing more than US$1 billion assets in the US, allegedly purchased with funds said to be stolen from 1MDB.
