Former gov't hospital doctor claims trial to sexually assaulting cleaner

A former doctor at a government hospital pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to two charges of sexually assaulting a 56-year-old cleaning lady, early last year.

Ahmad Ahnaf Kamarulizham, 31, allegedly committed the first offence inside the breastfeeding room of the same hospital between 10.30am and 11.30am on March 18, 2015.

The charge under Section 377CA of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment which may extend to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The accused allegedly committed the second offence at the same place, date and time, as charged under Section 377D of the same Code, which provides for imprisonment which may extend to two years, upon conviction.

The father of two also faces an alternative charge of molesting the woman, under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment extending to 10 years or a fine or whipping, or any two of the penalties, upon conviction.

Ahmad Ahnaf's counsel Fahmi Abdul Moin mitigated for a lower bail sum, telling the court that the accused was currently unemployed, with his wife who is now pregnant, taking the role of breadwinner.

"The accused also has to look after his children," said the counsel.

Prosecution officer ASP Muhamad Sapri Yaakub objected to any bail for the accused.

However, judge Shamsudin Abdullah set RM12,000 as bail with one surety, with an additional condition for the accused to report himself to the nearest police station once a month, and Sept 28 for mention.
