Noh Omar wants new Act to manage public housing
The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry is proposing to create a National Public Housing Management Corporation to provide full authority to the ministry to manage all People's Housing Projects (PPR) in the country.
Its Minister Noh Omar said the act would be tabled in Parliament in September next year for debate and passed so that PPR management could be conducted more effectively.
"The act will be established under the National Public Housing Management Corporation which will function as a statutory body but before the act is passed by Parliament, we will set up an Urban People Wellbeing Foundation.
"Under the act, all issues relating to PPR in the country are expected to be resolved and managed properly," he told reporters after laying the foundation stone for Kota Budaya in Sungai Rambai Youth Park, Jasin today.
Also present were Malacca Chief Minister Idris Haron and Sungai Rambai state assemblyperson Hasan Rahman.
Meanwhile, Noh said the ministry was conducting a whitening programme in all PPR nationwide to ensure the housing projects were occupied by citizens and not foreigners.
"We do not want foreigners to live in PPR as the government built them for the poor. The exercise is being carried out comprehensively," he said.
He said the ministry was also formulating programmes to expand free school bus service for all PPR under the management of the ministry to assist families from the urban poor.
In another development, Noh said the ministry would be putting in allocations to build a new Malacca Big Bazaar amounting to RM40 million in the ministry's budget in three years starting from 2019.
He said the ministry was also studying the needs to set up an incinerator at the Sungai Udang sanitary disposal site in Malaca to ensure solid waste management proceeded smoothly.
