The body of one of the six missing passengers of a trawler fishing boat which sank at Sungai Sirah in Pusa, Sarawak yesterday was found this morning. Another was recovered yesterday.

The remains of Elina Othman, 20, was retrieved near the site where the boat sank between Beladin and Tanjung Sepinang after search and rescue operations resumed early Saturday, Betong OCPD DSP Mosliman Hasli said.

According to a Bernama report, the police chief said efforts are being made to get the boat afloat as police believed some of the victims might have been trapped inside the vessel.

The boat carrying 16 passengers sank after it hit a sand-laden barge in thick mist at about 4am.

Pusa is located in the Sri Aman Division.

Skipper detained

The body of the first victim, Zaidi Seli, 13, was fished out from the waters yesterday while nine others survived the mishap by swimming ashore.

According to Mosliman, police have detained the boat's skipper and a crew of the barge to help in investigations into the incident.

Villagers, policemen, marine police, Sarawak Rivers Board and firefighters from Betong and Sri Aman districts are involved in the search and rescue operations.
