Political pressure group Gerakan Merah held a protest against the police's inaction at the Saturday TangkapMO1 rally, in front of the Dang Wangi police district headquarters today.
"We are here today to protest the failure of the police to arrest any of the activists (from the TangkapMO1 rally).
"It looks like the police are weak. We already lodged a police report before the rally, how come the police didn't arrest them?" its chief Mohd Ali Baharom, better known as Ali Tinju, said to reporters, as he stood among the 30-odd supporters who showed up with him to protest outside the police station.
The protest also saw the attendance of 'king of police reports' and Martabat Jalinan Muhibah Malaysia (MJMM) chief Abdul Rani Kulup, along with a few of his supporters.
Calling it double standards, Ali Tinju questioned why Gerakan Merah was not allowed to hold their rally, while the student-led TangkapMO1 rally was allowed to proceed without arrests.
He also called for the inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, the Kuala Lumpur chief police Amar Singh and the Kuala Lumpur mayor Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz to resign for supposedly not performing their duty.
"I, Ali Tinju, would like to advise that if you can't perform your duties, you should just resign from your positions," he thundered, to cheers from his supporters.
He was representing the people, he said, who were encumbered by the rally as they could not access the city properly during the rally.
He also asked Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to instruct for investigations to be opened into the organisers and activists behind the TangkapMO1 rally.
The group had marched from across the road and gathered outside the Dang Wangi police station, singing and chanting for the arrest of the activists.
After several speeches, including Ali Tinju's, which took about 20 minutes, the group marched away.
Some 1,500 people on Saturday joined the TangkapMO1 rally to pressure authorities to identify, arrest, investigate and charge 'Malaysian Official 1', the individual mentioned 36 times in the DOJ civil suit to recover nearly US$1 billion in assets linked to 1MDB.
Ali Tinju had earlier planned a counter-protest but scrapped it at the eleventh hour, saying that they were respecting the police's wishes.
