DAP's Rasah MP Teo Kok Seong, PKR's Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, six students and an activist gave their statements to police today on the 'Tangkap MO1' rally that was held last Saturday.

They arrived at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters about 11am.

Their lawyer Melissa Sasidaran said they were investigated under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code, which deals with public mischief, and Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act for failure to give stakeholders a 10-day notice before holding the rally.

Melissa (on right in photo) said the police said the investigations might be extended to include offences under the Sedition Act and Section 124B of the Penal Code, which deals with activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

"We don't know if they will be charged. We are happy to cooperate with the police, and they have not been remanded.

"However, the students and activists condemn the move to investigate them for holding a peaceful rally.

"This is since everyone knows MO1, who is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak according to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan, is still free," said Melissa, who is also a PKR Youth activist.

All rally speakers to be called in

It is understood that all who spoke at the rally, which attracted about 1,500 people, would be called in for investigation, she said.

Melissa said this after members of the group were questioned for more than two hours.

The six students are Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof, Aqilah Zainuzi, Amir Abd Hadi, Luqman Hakim, Luqman Nulhakim and Suhail Wan Azahar.

Also called up was activist Isaiah Jacob.

Anis Syafiqah (photo) said the move to investigate them is regrettable and hoped that it could be concluded soon.

"We thank police for their cooperation during questioning but we regret that we are called for questioning, even though the rally was peaceful… We demand justice as students and as Malaysians," she said.

Anis Syafiqah also denied Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein's claim that the rally was "hijacked" by opposition politicians.

She said the organisers had informed all politicians that they could only address the rally in front of the Sogo mall and Masjid Jamek, and only students could speak at the main gathering point, Dataran Merdeka.

"It was 100 percent students at Dataran Merdeka," she said.

She added the rally is not linked to the forthcoming Bersih 5 rally, and was definitely not a promotional event for Bersih 5.

"Our focus is to catch MO1 and to bring him to justice," Anis Syafiqah said.

MO1 refers to 'Malaysian Official 1', the term the United States Department of Justice used to refer to a high-ranking Malaysian government official who received US$731 million that originated from 1MDB.

Minister Abdul Rahman said MO1 is PM Najib, but he was not named by the DOJ because Najib is not the subject of the lawsuits filed by the DOJ.

The lawsuits by DOJ is to seize more than US$1 billion in assets in the US, believed to have been purchased with funds siphoned from 1MDB.

Najib has consistently denied abusing public funds.
