Cops steer clear of MO1 issue

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said cops did not want to get involved in a minister’s declaration that ‘Malaysian Official 1' was Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as it was a civil matter.

He also said this was a “free country”, in response to a group of students who were arrested for promoting the last Saturday’s TangkapMO1 rally and are now suing the police and government for allegedly denying them legal access.

Meanwhile, Gerakan Merah leader Mohd Ali Baharom was probed for insulting the police force after he organised a protest outside Dang Wangi district police headquarters to demand the arrest of TangkapMO1 rally organisers.

After being questioned by the police, Mohd Ali found his car, which was parked at the Bukit Aman police headquarters, sprayed with red paint.

Money politics in Umno

Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos claimed the RM1,000 each to be given to 646 Umno delegates was from sponsors and savings.

Umno veteran Rais Yatim ticked off Jamal, saying that this was evidence that money politics was practised in the party.

MACC move in on alleged Penang graft case

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested and remanded Lim Keat Seong, the father of DAP’s Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Lim Siew Khim, for purportedly taking bribes from people looking to secure affordable housing.

The DAP assemblyperson was also questioned by MACC.

In a separate development, Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said he welcomed a MACC report against him over the sale of the Kuantan Parade shopping complex, but said he reserved the right to sue for defamation.

Lawyer Haniff Khatri claimed attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali was spotted dancing with several ministers in public and questioned his independence when dealing with investigations against the government.
