If the opposition believes that it can take over 45 seats currently held by BN, Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar said he is similarly confident that the federal government can reclaim its two-thirds majority come next 14th general election.

Noh told reporters in Sungai Buloh today that anybody could express their confidence in winning an election.

"I can also say BN can win by a two-thirds majority," said Noh who is also housing and local government minister.

Noh said this when asked for comment on former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's statement on the opposition possibly taking over as many as 45 BN seats, should there be a small swing of voters against the ruling coalition.

"In a simulation conducted by experts that I appointed, if there is a four percent swing, 45 seats will fall (to the opposition).

"A majority of those seats belong to Umno," Muhyiddin, who is now Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia pro-tem committee president, said at an anti-1MDB roadshow organised by PKR in Sabak Bernam.

Commenting further, Noh said anyone could come up with such statements but it should also be practical.

In the 2013 13th general election, Umno contested in 120 seats but only won 88.

BN overall lost its two-thirds majority and also the popular vote to then federal opposition Pakatan Rakyat.

Tables turned

Noh, meanwhile, refused comment when asked on the recent confirmation that prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is the "Malaysian Official 1" mentioned 36 times in the United States Department of Justice's 1MDB-linked civil suit.

Instead, he turned the tables on fellow cabinet minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who made the remarks in a Sept 1 interview with England's BBC.

Go and ask Rahman Dahlan himself," said Noh.

Abdul Rahman had during the interview, said that Najib is MO1, but his name was not revealed as he is not directly involved in the civil suit to recover up to USD1 billion in assets linked to 1MDB.

From the total sum investigated, USD731 million is believed to have been siphoned directly into MO1's personal account.
