Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar questioned inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's reasoning behind labelling the remarks made by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan as "political".

Describing Khalid's remarks as puzzling, Mahfuz, in a statement, questioned what was so political about naming Najib as MO1.

"Where is the political element in the civil suit that stated money amounting to US$681 million had been siphoned into MO1's personal account?," he said in reference to the original amount which at the time, converted into the much publicised RM2.6 billion donation scandal.

The DOJ civil suit stated that US$731 million had allegedly been siphoned from 1MDB into MO1's personal account.

Mahfuz further questioned whether the police had detected a plot within Umno to topple Najib.

"Is Rahman Dahlan the main mover on behalf of the puppet master behind the scenes?," he asked.

Khalid on Friday said he did not want the police force to be dragged into politics regarding the MO1 issue.

Khalid said this when asked whether police would initiate investigations after Abdul Rahman Dahlan had confirmed that the Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) mentioned in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) civil suit against 1MDB was Najib.

'Police should not interfere'

Commenting further, Mahfuz said he agreed that the police should not interfere with purported efforts by certain quarters within Umno to replace Najib with another leader.

"I agree that Umno's political affairs should be left to the politicians.

"But police should still investigate (whether) the US$681 million (RM2.6 billion) that ended up in Najib's personal account, is from 1MDB, and not donations from an Arab," he said.

All Malaysian authorities investigating the case have cleared Najib of all wrongdoing.

The police, however, have reopened their probe following recommendations from the Public Accounts Committee.
