MCA: DAP should investigate, not defend Penang rep

DAP’s disciplinary committee should investigate Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Lim Siew Khim over the bribery scandal centred on her father, said Penang MCA.

Penang MCA deputy chief Tan Teik Cheng said this is what should have been done regardless of whether Siew Khis is aware of her father’s dealings, instead of having DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng defending Siew Khim.

“DAP is consistent in its method of resolving its leaders' scandals, which is to blame everything on political persecution.

"This is baffling as if suggesting that BN is the one which forced Lim Guan Eng to buy an undervalued bungalow at Jalan Pinhorn, Phang Li Koon to sell the bungalow below market price, and Lim Siew Khim’s father to solicit bribes.

"Therefore DAP’s disciplinary committee must investigate the matter and answer to the victims, as well as the public by uncovering the truth, and not Lim Guan Eng saying 'I believe her' to prove her innocence and bury the truth," he said in a statement today.

Guan Eng had reportedly defended Siew Khim, saying that she had upheld the law and he would stand by her.

“Those who have been scammed should come forward and lodge police reports, and inform the Penang Housing Department immediately,” New Straits Times quoted him as saying yesterday.

Siew Khim’s father, Lim Keat Seong, was remanded on Friday to facilitate investigations under Section 16 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

This came after a video surfaced on Monday last week showing him with several individuals who claimed to have paid him cash in exchange for low-cost housing units.

Siew Khim had claimed ignorance over her father’s dealings and described him as a long-time troublemaker. She also said she has no power over the Penang government’s decisions on the housing units.

The Penang Housing Department had denied allegations of graft.

Guan Eng is facing separate charges of graft and abuse of power since June, over his purchase of the bungalow along Jalan Pinhorn. He has claimed trial.

He also claims to be a victim of political persecution.
