To save our nation, both Najib and Umno/BN must go

Prudent: Both Najib Abdul Razak and Umno may be got rid of, but the system as configured by Dr Mahathir Mohamad when he was in power is likely to remain in place. Will there be the political will to reconfigure the system itself?

If the new coalition that replaces Umno is headed by Dr M or his puppet, it will likely be a fat hope that Dr M, unapologetic as he is, will allow anything more than superficial changes.

And if the independence of institutions of checks and balances like the judiciary, police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Parliament (separation of powers between the executive and the legislature) etc, is not restored, then there will be no real change and corruption may continue in even worse forms as Mahathirism will then be back.

And I have not even broached constitutional changes that should equalise the treatment of all ethnic groups and creed that have fuelled the extremism which is used as cover for ever more massive corruption.

Nah, don't think Dr M will even countenance such changes.

SSG: Koon Yew Yin, you have written an article which should be told to the village folk in the rural areas all over East and West Malaysia. Malays living in the cities already know this, and there is no use wasting your time here with them.

Thank you very much for this. Of course, you have to translate it into the Malay language first. Otherwise, they will not understand it at all. Note in point is the investigative video done by Global Witness about what was happening in Sarawak just before the last general election.

You have made your fortune trading/speculating in shares listed on the Malaysian stock exchange.

Next time, please also do write an article (in Malaysiakini) on why you do not trade/speculate in shares listed on the different stock exchanges in the US. If I am wrong, please do correct me on this.

Waktamnoko: It is a given that the majority of Malays now do not prefer Umno, what with the 1MDB scandal which is openly discussed in kampung coffeeshops.

But the dilemma facing them is who do they vote for? PAS? Most Malays do not prefer PAS, or even PKR for that matter. PAS is perceived as being too religious minded in that they failed to see the woods for the trees.

PKR is perceived as being under the thumb of the DAP. DAP? They wouldn't touch the party with a 10-foot pole. So who will they vote for under the present circumstances? Most will flock back to Umno.

And, Umno may even thrash the opposition in the coming general election (GE) without the Najib baggage. He is becoming a liability to Umno. So, even with all the dirt in Umno, the opposition is just not in a position to replace them.

By forming a new party, Mahathir is indirectly pressuring those in Umno to do away with Najib. And he may even succeed with this strategy if the current grapevine is to be believed.

Liew Lean Kut: Somebody said that Umno treated the Malays like chicken feed with ‘dedak’ to be fattened for the slaughter.

Maybe the kampung people still didn't realised it then, but now it has been revealed that Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) is Najib, let us see what happens.

Amanah wants Dr M to contest in Putrajaya seat under Harapan

Asking a 93-year-old man to contest in 2018 should be least of your concerns.

Ksn: Indeed, Amanah, you are out of your senses wanting this man to contest in the GE on a Pakatan Harapan ticket.

You better think again if you know what is good for Amanah and the opposition. Our people are not stupid to so easily forget the countless damage he did to the country for 22 years.

Tok Karut: The opposition might as well go for it, but it should be prepared to insist on democratic reforms, and Dr M is also too old to be the PM again. He needs his rest.
