Youth and Sports Ministry Khairy Jamaluddin is concerned over the number of people who have asked him for the phone number of national shuttler and Olympic silver medallist Goh Liu Ying.

"My only trouble is that, every man, whether Chinese, Malay or Indian, all asked for Goh's number from me. But even I don't have it," Khairy said, as reported by Chinese daily Kwong Wah today.

Goh was one half of the national badminton mixed doubles pair who won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics last month, along with Chan Peng Soon.

Khairy (photo) also spoke about the men's doubles pair of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong, who also won silver in their event at the Rio Olympics.

"For our men's doubles, I always call Goh V Shem 'Mr Instagram' as he likes to upload pictures to Instagram.

"I call Tan Wee Kiong 'Mr Handsome'. Everyone wants their phone numbers from me.

"When I say that they (the athletes) already have partners, they (fans) say it's okay," he said.

M'sia deliver its best performance

This year's Olympics saw Malaysia deliver its best performance in terms of medals garnered, with four silvers and one bronze.

Aside from the men's singles and mixed doubles, Lee Chong Wei also won silver in the men's singles event.

Another silver was won in the 10m synchronised diving by Pandelela Rinong and Cheong Jun Hoong.

Meanwhile, Azizulhasni Awang won bronze in the Keirin cycling event.

"You (athletes) are the pride of this nation. Malaysia is proud of you," Khairy reportedly said in Mandarin yesterday, to the applause of the audience.

Taking a jab at a viral letter purportedly from China's badminton ace Lin Dan to Lee, which was later proven to be false, Khairy also clarified that the two badminton rivals were not actually in love.

Lee had also previously responded to the fake letter, joking that he and Lin Dan were not a pair of lovers to be passing letters to each other.

He also said that Lee proved himself in beating Lin Dan, and their semi-final match during in Rio was the true finals match in the heart of every Malaysian.

"Chong Wei, for you, I believe it was the final, especially the third round in the match against Lin Dan.

"I have never seen any badminton match like this. It was fantastic," Khairy said.
