The police are in the midst of tracking down four local men over the assault of Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ibrahim Ansar, at the KL International Airport in Sepang last Sunday.

Selangor CID chief Mohd Adnan Abdullah said initial investigations revealed the attackers had gone into hiding and were still in the country.

He said this when contacted by Bernama in Kuala Lumpur today.

On the five individuals who were detained for allegedly assaulting Ibrahim, Mohd Adnan said their remand was extended by two days until tomorrow.

On Sept 6, Selangor police chief Abdul Samah Mat was reported as saying there was political motive behind the attack on Ibrahim, adding that it was also due to the group's dissatisfaction.

He had also said 47 police reports were lodged to protest against the presence of former Sri Lanka president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, to the country to attend the International Conference of Asian Political Parties.
