'KJ spot on about witch-hunt in FAM, but what about 1MDB?'

DAP's Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin was right in criticising the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for going on a witch-hunt against whistleblowers, and she questioned if the Umno Youth chief would apply the same standard to the 1MDB issue.

Khairy said yesterday it is the content of the leaked information highlighting FAM's weaknesses in a pendrive that was important, and not who leaked it.

"Using the same logic and rationale, does Khairy agree that the attorney-general should drop the charge against Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli under the Official Secrets Act 1972 for allegedly leaking the classified audit report on 1MDB?

"Just like football fans are not interested to know who leaked the information, the people of Malaysia are not bothered if the information revealed from Rafizi was official secret.

"What is more important is the content, as rightly pointed out by Khairy," Teo said in a statement today.

Khairy was quoted by Berita Harian ysterday as saying: "Surely what is important is the content, because in terms of priority I believe football fans are not interested to hear from FAM who leaked the information."

In the same vein, Teo also questioned whether Khairy was prepared to propose to the cabinet to declassify the auditor-general's report on 1MDB.

"Khairy’s advice to FAM is timely and accurate. However, other than defending the right to information of all football fans, can we expect the outspoken Khairy to take one step further and speak up for all Malaysians?

"Instead of hunting down Rafizi by using the draconian OSA, what the BN government should do is declassify the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB so that the content can be evaluated by all concerned citizens.

"If indeed Rafizi has misled the general public or defamed 1MDB, then he can be charged under the relevant provision of laws," Teo said.
