Malaysian film 'Redha' continued its winning streak on the international stage by taking home three prizes at the Kazan International Muslim Film Festival in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan yesterday.

The film won Best Actor in a Male Ensemble Cast, President of Tatarstan Republic Prize for Humanism in Cinematography and the Special Prize of the Russian Film Critics' Guild.

The winning actors are Nam Ron, Harith Haziq and Izzy Zulkhazreef.

The film was directed by fledgling director Tunku Mona Riza.

"To bring home some awards from Kazan to Malaysia is our proudest moment as we were competing against great films made by award-winning filmmakers from all over the world," the Redha team said on its Facebook page.

'Redha', which features the story of a couple with a child diagnosed with autism, won the Best Actress and the Special Jury Prize at the Philippines Film Festival 2016 in June.

The film ran for 32 weeks in Malaysian cinemas this year and grossed RM497,071.75 at the box office, far behind top grossing films like 'Ola Bola' (RM16.6 million), 'Munafik' (RM17.04 million), 'Boboiboy' (RM15.74 million) and 'Mat Moto' (RM4.39 million).

'Redha' cost RM3.7 million to produce.

The Kazan International Film Festival has been held in the capital city of Tatarstan since 2005 with the aim of creating a dialogue through culture, between Russia, its Muslim neighbours and the greater global community.

More than 200 films from 50 countries have participated in the festival.

'Immortal' by Iranian director Hadi Mohaghegh won best feature film this year.

'Immortal' earlier also won the top award at Asia's most influential festival, the Busan International Film Festival.

It tells the story of Ayaz, a grief-stricken old man who is almost driven to suicide over the loss of his son, and Ibrahim, his young grandson who tries to help him overcome his grief.
