PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had announced yesterday that he would perform the korban with the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (Apam) at their complex in Ayer Keroh, Malacca.

However, he said today that he was informed that the ceremony would not be carried out at that venue without being given any reason.

"The cancellation of the korban at the Civil Defence Force complex at the last minute is very disappointing," he said.

Shamsul, who is also the force's honorary colonel, questioned whether the cancellation of the event had anything to do with politics.

"I am contacting the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Apam affairs to find out whether this instruction came from him or from the political leadership of Malacca.

"There's no need to politicise the issue of korban on this blessed Hari Raya," the Bukit Katil MP said.

In a statement today, he said he had earlier received thanks and confirmation that the event would take place this morning.

Malaysiakini is currently seeking clarification from Apam regarding these allegations.

Meanwhile Shamsul said that he will take back the cow he donated, since it was not sacrificed as planned.

"Tomorrow 10am I will pick up my cow," he said in a WhatsApp message.
