Sungai Besar Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos believes that electoral reform NGO Bersih will push back the date for its Bersih 5 rally.

He said the date itself was announced only one year after the NGO told all it would take to the streets in another massive rally.

"To me whatever that is announced by that group of 'circus animals' is only fit to be laughed at. As for Bersih 5, she (Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah) announced it a year ago and only today announced that it is to be on Nov 19.

"I believe that the date wil be pushed back further. It is just propaganda to poison the minds of the rakyat, so within the coming few months, they can try to trick the rakyat into taking to the streets," he told Malaysiakini.

Jamal was commenting on the Bersih chief's announcement today that Bersih 5 will be held mid-November, seen by pundits as a means to pressure the government in the run-up to the upcoming general election.

He further added that by looking at the timeline from now til Nov 19, Bersih will have about two months to organise the rally.

Jamal said this will give Bersih some time to instigate the rakyat to take to the streets.

"Bersih previously used the TangkapMO1 rally to test the market, so they may postpone the rally till later so that they have time to trick the rakyat and instigate them to take to the streets," he said.

Asked if he will keep his word to field his red shirts in a counter-rally, Jamal said this was up to Maria and Bersih.

"I am consistent in this, if they break the law, we will go down to protest them, but if everything is according to the law, then we will not interfere," said Jamal.

On Jul 23, Jamal had promised to bring 300,000 red shirts to face off against Bersih supporters on the day of Bersih 5.
