Apandi, dance with the rakyat, not just ministers
YOURSAY | ‘I do not recall a single incident in the past where the AG behaved in such an improper manner.’
Trivial to demand AG resign for dancing with ministers, says lawyer
Gerard Lourdesamy: The attorney-general (AG) is not a member of the cabinet but a member of the government. He is the principal law officer of the Crown. So why dress up in the same ‘uniform’ as the cabinet and do a ‘public dance’ with the ministers?
You do not see judges behaving that way, although they are part of the government. The AG as the public prosecutor must not only be seen to be impartial but he must also act impartially, both in private and in public.
I do not recall a single incident in the past where the AG behaved in such an improper manner in public. In the US, as in the UK, the AG is a member of the cabinet. Even then they do not indulge in some public ‘joget’ with members of the cabinet.
This public defence of the AG by a lawyer whose firm acts for the PM and Umno hardly instils confidence in the impartiality and integrity of the office of the AG.
Fairman: Not to forget, The Star also captured a photograph of chief justice Arifin Zakaria, who is head of the judiciary, wearing the same uniform. I nearly fell off my chair over the conduct of Arifin.
Arifin could have attended the parade with his brother judges by wearing their robes, however uncomfortable it may be due to the weather.
Bulls**tWalks & Money Talks: Lawyer Wan Azmir Wan Majid, you are blind to the fact that the AG wears two hats - as adviser to the government and as public prosecutor.
If the AG was just adviser to the government and not a public prosecutor, there is no issue. He can ‘sleep’ with them.
But he is also the public prosecutor. That’s where the problem lies. If he must dance, please do it with the public too.
Anonymous_1421406986: What will happen if Apandi attends a wedding function of a DAP or PKR leader? Will they all be dashing for the door or jumping out of the windows?
You cannot restrict a man just because he holds a high position. Let him have some space. I think Malaysians are getting a little too judgmental about everything.
We have a politician alleged to be involved with another man's wife that ended in a divorce. Why has the opposition not raised any questions about this matter?
Is it because the person is supportive of the opposition now? What would have happened if he continues to be with the ruling party?
You are a bunch of hypocrites. What have you done for the rakyat except to protect your seats and your political parties?
Richard: Do you think Apandi would dance with DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang or Lim Guan Eng?
Anonymous 1330001439179066: I agree, but it's the unhappiness with Apandi that the rakyat look for an excuse, no matter how trivial, in demanding for his resignation.
Anonymous #19098644: Wearing the same uniform as the BN ministers, dancing and frolicking with the ministers and declaring the prime minister as not guilty, without seriously considering what is now overwhelming evidence.
Apandi has brought disgrace to his office and his profession. Yet Umno-linked cronies think that the rakyat are as stupid as their supporters.
Rick Teo: Wan Azmir says we should judge Apandi based on his actions. Well, so far his actions cannot stand up to scrutiny.
Why did he stop the mutual legal assistance (MLA) requests? Why did he ask the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to stop further investigation into1MDB?
All these are actions of a biased AG. He should resign.
Anonymous_3ef7: Yes, you can dance, but why wear their colours? Please, we're not dumb.
‘72 virgins reward’ a way terrorists attract ignorant Muslims
StrainingGnats, SwallowCamels: "Non-Muslims," he (former army colonel Abdul Manaf Kasmuri) said, "should not worry as Islam is ‘rahmatan lil alamin’ (blessings for the whole world). If Islam doesn't show compassion, then it’s not Islam.”
Therein lies the rub, Compassion is lacking not only towards non-Muslims but also Muslims. And it is very difficult to see compassion when we are confronted by so many terrorist acts carried out in the name of God.
Senyum Kambeng: This is a discourse Muslims have to have. Those who hold different views have long been shouted down and silenced. It was the same with Catholicism a long time ago, until some brave and enlightened Catholics challenged the Church.
The intellectual conversation among Muslims is sadly wanting. For instance, what do you mean by "virgins"? Is it literal? Is it any wonder non-Muslims feel that Muslims are obsessed with sex, as demonstrated by some of the commentators?
Lajib: The human sexual instinct is one of the physiological needs that lie at the bottom of Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. At the top is "self-actualisation".
You should know a person's behaviour, character and social status if he can be easily motivated by sex alone.
Freethinker: If male martyrs get 72 virgins in heaven, what happens when a female martyr goes to heaven?
