Prasana Malaysia Berhad has taken in stride an Internet meme comparing its Light Rail Transit (LRT) to a zombie train in the newly-released Korean film ‘Train to Busan’.

Within hours after its LRT train on the Kelana Jaya line failed on Sept 9, stranding hundreds of passengers on the elevated track, ‘Train to KL’ posters began emerging on social media.

Prasarana chief executive officer Azmi Abdul Aziz said the fact there was widespread attention showed the people cared about public transportation in the country.

“I see it as a guidance that many of our passengers and even those not using (the LRT service) already have a sense of ownership.

“They feel that the rail system is something close to them. It is also their chance to give feedback and we will look at them and figure how to solve the problems in future,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Azmi said the LRT service disruption last week was due to a power trip and RM250 million will be invested to upgrade substations to prevent a repeat of the incident.

He said the upgrade works for the Kelana Jaya line will commence next week and last until the end of the year.

Azmi said the standard operating procedure (SOP) was complied with when stranded passengers were evacuated following the service disruption.

He said passengers used a special walkway by the track which is meant for emergencies.

“The Land Public Transport Commission has also instructed for us to review and improve our existing SOP,” he said.

In another development, Azmi said that the 50 percent discount for LRT commuters on weekdays from 6am to 7pm will also commence tomorrow.
