A 37-year-old painter with gunshot wounds was found dead at a house in Kampung Jelapang in Setiu early today.

Terengganu CID chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz said the body was found by the victim's uncle who had just returned home from visiting relatives at Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu, at 4.30am.

He said the uncle called the police after finding traces of blood on the victim's head.

"Initial investigation showed that the victim from Kampung Gong Kapas, Besut, was shot several times," he told reporters.

He said further investigation conducted by pathologists at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital also found gunshot wounds on the victim's neck, left arm, hip, left thigh, feet and chest.

"The police also found bullets near the wall and kitchen door inside the house. Bullet shells were also found in front of the house," he said.

He believed that the victim was shot using two different pistols.

"Investigation is still ongoing to nab the killer and to ascertain the motive behind the murder," he said.

The police also appealed for the public's cooperation and to contact the authority if they see unfamiliar faces in the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Meanwhile a neighbour to the victim, Hasrol Hazwan Mohd, 30, said he had not heard any shooting or fighting from the house.

"This morning, the victim's uncle came to the house and asked if I had heard of any argument, but I had not heard of any suspicious sounds.

"Then he told me that Edy was probably killed in a fight," he told reporters when met at the scene of the incident.
