The sixth accused in the murder of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais had admitted to ramming his pick-up into the car driven by Morais, the High Court was told today.

Federal Police (Bukit Aman) Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC) officer ASP Badrul Hisyam Abd Hamid said the accused, S Nimalan, 23, had told him this while they were travelling from the Kuala Muda police headquarters (IPD) in Kedah to Subang Jaya IPD in Selangor, early morning on Sept 16, 2015.

“Nimalan told me he was driving a black Mitsubishi Triton and rammed it into the car driven by Kevin Morais," he said during re-examination by deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin in the Kevin Morais murder trial, which entered its 22nd day today.

Badrul Hisyam, the 31st prosecution witness, said he had asked Nimalan why he hit the victim’s car and that the accused replied that he was directed to do so by the seventh accused in the case, S Ravi Chandaran, 45.

The 32nd witness, Bukit Aman STAFOC officer ASP Abdul Hanis Hairul Abdul Halim, meanwhile, said Ravi Chandaran had told him where the Triton used to ram Morais’ car was located during interrogation at IPD Kuala Muda, Kedah, on Sept 15, 2015.

During examination-in-chief by DPP Mohammad Izzat Fauzan, the witness said that based on the information, he and 10 other personnel including his superior Supt Shazeli Kahar had gone to a residential area in Lunas, Kulim, Kedah, to seize the vehicle.

He said in the same interrogation session, the accused had also informed him where he had disposed of items related to the case.

Muhammad Izzat said based on that information, he, Ravi Chandaran, and two members of the Sentul IPD Criminal Investigation Department were directed to a river in Kuala Selangor to find the said items on Sept 19, 2015.

“Upon reaching the location, that is at Kilometre 46 of the Klang-Teluk Intan road, on the bridge, Ravi Chandaran was taken out of the vehicle and he said: “Sir, this is where I disposed the items,” he said.

The witness said divers from the Civil Defence Department who conducted search operations in the river found a grinding machine at the bottom of the river.

Six men - G Gunasekaran, 48, R Dinishwaran, 24, AK Thinesh Kumar, 23, M Vishwanath, 26, Nimalan and Ravi Chandaran, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Morais between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, between Jalan Dutamas Raya, Sentul and No 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.

Col Dr R Kunaseegaran, 53, who is the first accused, had pleaded not guilty to conspiring with the six men to murder Morais at the same place, date and time.

The trial before Judge Azman Abdullah continues tomorrow.
