YOURSAY | ‘The EC has clearly shown that they are not honest and independent.’
EC denies redelineation being done in favour of certain parties
Restless: Election Commission chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah, you are duty bound to substantiate your delineation exercise with statistics and strong valid reasons, not just mere denials.
You are outrageously abusing your position and powers, acting ultra vires to the spirit of the Federal Constitution.
Don't tell us that you welcome protests and representations, and at the same time bulldoze the changes in the electoral boundaries through.
Day after day, time after time, the people are taken for a ride with the utter abuse of the government mechanism by the Umno elites.
Can you please not hoodwink the people with such obvious, ridiculous and dubious gerrymandering and treat them like fools?
Anonymous 2362021442199789: Deny, deny, deny... but yet no reason given as to why the redelineation exercise was done the way the EC is recommending. What was the rationale and how does it benefit the affected voters?
The EC must be transparent and open so that it can earn the respect and trust of the electorate. As it stands, that trust is obviously missing and many, perhaps even a majority of registered voters, are questioning the independence of the EC.
Mushiro: Yes, the EC chairperson should answer the serious allegation of gerrymandering against the commission instead of just saying that the allegation is untrue.
He said the EC has performed its duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Federal Constitution. But what the EC has done is enlarged the opposition’s stronghold constituencies and shrink its marginal constituencies.
This is a clear pattern to advantage BN parties. It does not make any sense when neighbouring constituencies have voter population of more than 20 percent and some as high as 50 percent.
The EC has clearly shown that they are not honest and independent. In theory, the people can complain but BN will push this through Parliament like how they had done for other controversial bills.
Aquinas Says: Indeed, government agencies should make it a point to give reasons for their actions instead of asking people to stop accusing it of being biased. Allow us, the people, to analyse your reasons.
Pahatian: Mohd Hashim, don't lie and don't deny. The figures show it all and still you got the cheek to deny.
Why are there big disparities between a number of opposition-held seats with over 100,000 voters or more and Umno-held seats with 30,000 or less?
In accordance with the constitution, my foot. Tell it to the marines. Complaints? They will throw them into the rubbish bins. Dewan Rakyat's approval? It will be bulldozed and approved after midnight.
That's the game the EC and Umno will play. You know no shame and have no integrity.
Anonymous 1816381470753461: My observation is simple. There is no reason to move voters from one place to another.
Can EC explain the need to move them? I simply don't understand the EC chairperson's reasoning.
Alamak: Mr Chairperson, I beg to differ. Where's the principle of natural justice in the latest delimiting exercise?
Is your action fair and equitable to all parties? It looks even messier and confusing to the rakyat. So stop your mumbo jumbo.
Anonymous 1890491455255851: It is the duty of the EC to work in accordance with international norms. It does not have a reputation of having done so. So are we to now believe anything it puts out? Hardly.
Anonymous #40538199: In addition to refraining themselves from favouring any party in any delineation exercise, EC should as far as possible, ensure that each vote carries about the same weight.
That is, I believe, the constitutional responsibility and moral duty of EC.
Ipoh Pp: EC chairperson, let me ask you if you have a conscience? How do you sleep at night and how do you find peace with God?
Remember you will have to account for all your evil deeds when you say ‘adios’ to this world.
Your KiniGuide to the redelineation exercise
Vijay47: Well done, Malaysiakini’s Koh Jun Lin, a well-explained simplified look into what delineation is all about or at least should be.
I hope you can now come out with another exposure, presenting the opposition's arguments and showing with reference to specific cases how this exercise by the EC is benefitting and strengthening a terrified Umno.
Vijay47: Oops, sorry. The specifics have already been explored in Malaysiakini’s ‘How EC is tying hands of the opposition’.
Roger 5201: EC's delineation exercise is further diluting our votes and in line with international worst practices. This is cheating at the starting line.
