Penampang MP quits PKR for new Sabah movement

Penampang MP Darell Leiking has quit PKR to join forces with former Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal for a new anti-BN platfrom in Sabah.

Leiking was present with Shafie in Putrajaya yesterday as Shafie took over an existing political party for their vehicle.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said Leiking’s exit will not paralyse the party in Sabah and PKR will still be working with him against BN.

Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, who is a Sabah Umno leader, said BN is unfazed by the new political movement and expressed confidence that the people will still support Umno.

PKR buries snap election idea

PKR has closed the door on talks of a snap election in Selangor after its women’s chief, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said the decision not to go with DAP’s proposal is final.

DAP had called for the snap election to pre-empt the Election Commission’s (EC) redelineation exercise, which it said would shift voters to favour the BN.

Meanwhile, a group of Pakatan Harapan MPs claimed they were barred from the EC’s Kuala Lumpur office today - but the EC denied doing so.

Controversy over PM’s statement on Agong

Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad continued to train his guns against Najib Abdul Razak, contrasting himself with the current prime minister by pointing out that he had turned down 24 cars offered to him upon retirement.

Mahathir's criticism came a day after Najib issued a statement stating that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had informed him of the details between Mahathir’s meeting with the monarch.

However, Parti Amanah Negara deputy president Salahuddin Ayub questioned Najib’s statement, asking when the prime minister had become the spokesperson for the Agong.

Mahathir had submitted a petition to the Agong, urging Najib’s removal for, among others, the 1MDB scandal.

Meanwhile, a report by US-based The Hollywood Reporter claims that Robert De Niro is linked to the US Department of Justice’s case on 1MDB.
