'Bersatu proposal to limit PM's tenure just to gain support'

The proposal by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir to limit the prime minister's tenure to two terms is just to gain support, said Umno information chief Annuar Musa.

He said the proposal was only subject to his party because he had no right to propose it to other parties.

"Sometimes there are people who like to suggest things to others that they themselves would not do," he told reporters after the Mesra Oghe Tere (People of Ketereh) Ceremony at Bukit Marak, Kota Baru today.

Annuar, who is also Ketereh Member of Parliament, said that he was confident that the public would not be attracted to such a proposal.

Yesterday, Mukhriz was reported as saying that Bersatu had proposed to shorten the prime minister's tenure to just two terms if a new government was formed after the 14th general election.
