Car ploughed into us suddenly, says victim's wife

"It happened very fast. Suddenly a car crashed into our direction. I fell and was in pain, I managed to stand up to find my husband and children. I called him but there was no answer. I held my daughter but she was lifeless."

This was the sad recollection of Siti Suhaiza Seman, 38, who lost her husband Izwan Isa, 39, and her youngest daughter, Nur Zulaikha, five, when they were rammed by a go-kart while watching the 2016 Education, Innovation Race (EIMARace) in Jalan Sukpa, Indera Mahkota in Kuantan yesterday.

In the 11.30am accident, her eldest son Muhammad Izz Danial, seven, was injured but in stable condition at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here and was being looked after by a relative.

Siti Suhaiza said the decision to watch the race was made spontaneously after hearing the loud engine sound from their house in Astana Permai in Kuantan.

"As soon as my husband returned from his shift work, I told him to stop at the race for a while for the children to watch before going to the market. When we arrived, there was no barricade at all. We just casually entered.

"My husband was very excited with the race as we have never seen a go-kart race before. He went forward a little bit and the children followed. There was a security guard but he merely told to move back but we were not restrained.

"He (security guard) only told us to move back a bit," she told Bernama when met at her home in Kuantan, today.

Siti Suhaiza, who is a teacher of Sekolah Kebangsaan Indera Mahkota, added that the incident occurred when they were about to leave and my husband said it was not safe before the mishap happened.

She said her husband was flung quite far away while Nur Zulaikha and Muhammad Izz Danial fell near her.

"Allah looked after me. But my husband and daughter were not so lucky, she said.

Despite her pain, Siti Suhaiza also saw to it the bodies of her husband and daughter were given final funeral rites at Tengku Ampuan Azfan Mosque in Indera Mahkota yesterday and said a prayer session would be held tonight near her house.

Today, she received visits from many people including UTM vice-chancellor Professor Dr Wahid Omar, Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur and Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh.
