Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pro-tem president Muhyiddin Yassin will make his first appearance at a PAS ceramah in Terengganu on Oct 1.

Titled 'Himpunan Harapan', the event organised by Terengganu PAS will also feature the Islamist party's vice-president Idris Ahmad, election director Mustaffa Ali and state PAS deputy commissioner II Yahaya Ali.

A poster of the event, with an image of Muhyiddin with several PAS leaders, including president Abdul Hadi Awang, has set tongues wagging.

Confirming the matter, Terengganu PAS commissioner Saiful Bahri Mamat told Malaysiakini that Muhyiddin was invited in his capacity as former deputy prime minister.

He said Muhyiddin was invited even before the formation of Bersatu.

"I am sure thepeople would like to hear his views on his exit from Umno," Saiful added, in reference to the former Umno deputy president being sacked from the party in July.

Saiful also stressed that PAS practised a mature brand of politics and welcomed all who can accept its struggle

"From a political aspect in Terengganu, there are only PAS and Umno at present.

"So we have to look for ways to convince Umno members to leave their party and join PAS," he said in explaining the reason for inviting Muhyiddin to speak at the event.

Saiful also clarified that Hadi is slated to officiate the event on Sept 28, and that he would not be present on Oct 1 when Muhyiddin delivers his speech.

Detractors have often accused Hadi of being aligned to Muhyiddin’s nemesis, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
