PM perfected tools Dr M used to sabotage democracy

YOURSAY | ‘Mahathir, you started the destruction of the checks and balance ...’.

Dr M calls Najib a ‘saboteur of democracy’

Tan Heng Ken: Yes, Prime Minister Najib Razak is a saboteur of democracy. That is because he is from Umno, and he had his training and grooming from Umno's best democracy-saboteur in the world.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Unfortunately, Najib is only following the path set by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

It is only now, shut out from the system, that Mahathir can feel what the people had felt during his premiership, and continue to suffer under Najib.

Najib may have tried to do differently initially, but he has now carried on in the same path set by Mahathir.

Worse, Najib has the most inept, intelligence deficient, bigoted group of people in his cabinet and in Umno.

Ian2003: Indeed, Najib merely used the tools provided by Mahathir. Therefore, both are destroyers of our democracy.

Jesse: Mahathir, you started the destruction of the checks and balance, and Najib merely perfected it so that no one can touch him.

Who is going to arrest him now since everyone is under his thumb?

GE14Now!: The truth is that both these people have been sabotaging our democracy for years. The only difference is that one is still in power, while the other is not.

Dr M is not to be trusted, just as Najib cannot be accepted.

Anticonmen: As a doctor, you should know that when you weaken your immune system, you get disease.

The constitution, rule of law and separation of powers and controls are akin to the body's immune system. Weaken or dismantle them and you get abuse of power and a dictatorship. When will you acknowledge this simple fact?

Mahathir still refuses to admit that he was the one who dismantled democracy stipulated in the 1957 constitution, and had instead implemented kleptocracy through party and race since the 80s.

Admit your mistakes and get your party to reinstate the 1957 constitution, rule of law and separation of powers. That's the only solution.

Determined Sarawakian: How many people had you sent to Kamunting detention centre during Ops Lalang?

What did you do with the constitution without the consent of the rakyat when you were PM? Who devolved the powers of the royalty?

If today you were in power, and Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah would already be in Kamunting, and our prisons would be full of those who disagree with you.

Justice Fairness: What a joke. I suppose Najib also initiated Ops Lalang, threw hundreds of people in jail under Internal Security Act (ISA), closed down major newspapers such as The Star and Sin Chew Daily, and sacked the lord president and all the Supreme Court judges. Hilarious.

Dont Just Talk: Malaysia should have limited the prime minister to two terms, like that of the president in the United States. This would avoid corruption and abuse of power in the country.

Sadly, the fourth prime minister Mahathir did not have the foresight when he was on the watch for 22 years.

What the allegedly corrupt Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) is doing is continuing the legacy left by Mahathir.

Just A Malaysian: It’s funny to see Mahathir fighting for democracy. I never thought I would see the day when Mahathir would uphold the virtues of people’s power in a true democratic system.

Anonymous_1371455474: Wow, so now Mahathir is the paragon of democracy who believes in press freedom and human rights.

Najib blames 'retired leader' for dividing Muslims

Bersatu Malaysia: It is the past that has brought us to the present state. Nothing happens without a cause.

If we fail to learn from the flaws and faults of our past and present leaders, from all their wrong policies and politics, then we as a nation will spiral down to failure and destruction.

Harping on race and religion won’t save us. It is only when we have good, god-fearing, wise leaders that this nation will progress with peace, harmony and prosperity for all Malaysians.

The rakyat must first change their attitude about the kind of leaders they want to lead this nation.

It is time to make the right choices or you can say forever goodbye to the future as has happened to many African, Asian and Middle East countries.

Mamadias: Yes, this is not about race or religion anymore. It’s about right and wrong.

It’s about stealing money from the rakyat. Someone must pay the price. Usually it starts with leader of the pack.
