Khairy shortlisted for 2017 SEA Games polo team

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who has been shortlisted for the national polo team for the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, wants the selection to be based on merit.

"It is just the initial list. The final list will only be known in March or April. I hope those selected can give their best to the team," he told a press conference after the launch of Akademi Sazali Samad at i-Tech Tower, Shaftsbury in Cyberjaya.

Putra Polo president Mohamad Norza Zakaria said today Khairy was among 12 players shortlisted by the Royal Malaysian Polo Association to compete in the SEA Games next year.

Khairy said if selected, he would make the other athletes as inspiration, despite his status as a cabinet minister.

"There are a few tournaments before the selection is finalised. The Malaysia Open Championship starts this week while final training will be held in Argentina at year's end. Only then, the ability of players can be assessed."
