Dr M flirting with unhealthy politics, says Gerakan chief

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is dabbling in unhealthy politics with his statement that the Barisan Nasional government in three states could fall before the general election.

Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong said a change in the top leadership and administration of a state could only be determined by a process of democracy via an election, and not by getting elected representatives to switch camp.

“Saying that there may be a change of government in Perak and Terengganu, I think that is not right. He is trying to entice people to come over.

“They are far from changing the government. The election may be near and let the people decide. The people have already decided the government for Perak and Terengganu, so don’t use this tactic just to change the government.

“I think this is not healthy, too much of politicking. Let the government continue,” he told reporters after attending the 2016 Gerakan national delegates’ conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

At a talk in Muar, Johor last night, Dr Mahathir was reported as saying a small change in state assemblymen could topple the BN state governments in Perak, Terengganu and Johor before the next general election.
