Former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim sees no need for the Nov 19 Bersih rally, and wants Bersih to aid the poor in villages instead.

He said there are many still living on the fringes and losing out in terms of education, because politicians and the public are more keen to focus on Bersih.

"I feel that now is not the time for street rallies. The people are facing the issue of poverty, and the widening gap between the rich and poor.

"It would be better if Bersih can use their energy to work with experts to help the impoverished people in the villages, develop something so they can escape poverty.

"Besides, the general election is in no more than two and half years to come, so it would be better for parties to show they are working for the people," he told reporters in Cyberjaya today.

Separately, Khalid today put an end to speculation on his next political move, when he announced he will quit politics after the 14th general election.

This comes after speculation that he might join PAS, or form a new party with several PKR leaders.

Khalid, who was sacked from PKR, said he is close to PAS because the Islamist party helped him campaign in the Ijok by-election.

"Both those speculations are untrue. First, I have always had close ties with PAS friends...they supported me in the Ijok by-election in 2007, and this is why I am often seen with them.

"I have no intention to continue in politics after the 14th general election," he told reporters after a PAS function in Cyberjaya today.

In July last year, Khalid said he will leave politics after resigning as Selangor MB.

Meanwhile, Khalid said he supports PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's decision not to negotiate with DAP.

"I feel PAS' principles is to uphold Islam. Even though we live in a plural society, PAS' stand is to uphold Islam and I support that.

"So it must choose its allies based on that," he said.
