Youth sends 'suicide text' before jumping to death at KL mall

"I want to commit suicide."

That was the short-message service (SMS) text received by Mohd Azari Misnun before his younger brother, 22, was found dead lying at the entrance of the Gardens Mall in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Brickfields district police chief, ACP Sharul Othman Mansor said the victim, who was unemployed, was believed to have jumped to his death from the fourth floor of the shopping centre's car park about 11pm.

"According to the victim's brother, who is also a policeman, he had gone to the mall with his brother (the victim) in a car which was parked on the fourth floor of the building.

"The victim told his brother that he wanted to buy some items and the latter went to the Maxis Centre located in the mall to pay the victim's phone bill," he said when contacted today.

Sharul Othman said after that, Mohd Azari waited for his brother in the car before receiving the SMS text from the victim saying that he wanted to kill himself.

He said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was sent to University Malaya Medical Centre.

According to the elder brother, the victim often had hallucinations and was undergoing treatment, he added.

The case is being investigated as sudden death.
