Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has admitted that it would be difficult for the opposition pact to overthrow the Barisan Nasional (BN) government which comprises 14 political parties.

He said the 14 component parties would help each other during the general election by voting for candidates fielded in specific areas.

"When a BN candidate is fielded, the other 14 parties (components) will support the candidate and the opposition will always lose.

"This is because the opposition parties will only think about their respective parties instead of thinking on how to unite as a party, that is why it cannot achieve victory," he said at the launch of the Perak state level Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia in Lumut today.
