Former Langkawi Wanita Umno member Anina Saadudin today officially withdrew her challenge at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on the constitutionality of Section 18C of the Societies Act, which states that a decision of a political party cannot be taken to court.

This is because Anina is now a member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Her lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla said he informed judicial commissioner Roslan A Bakar on the withdrawal of the application.

"Now that Anina has become a Bersatu member, the matter has become academic," he told reporters after meeting the judicial commissioner in chambers.

Haniff added that Registrar of Societies (ROS) did not ask for costs but Umno which sought for it was awarded RM2,000 by the court.

Anina had named Umno, ROS and the government as respondents in the challenge.

She wanted Section 18C of the Act to be declared unconstitutional, and hence null and void.

Anina had previously filed a RM2.6 billion suit against Umno president Najib Abdul Razak wanting the proceeds of the money said to be a donation to Najib, to be returned to Umno.

After filing the suit, she was expelled from the party. The suit against Najib was dismissed and recently she withdrew her appeal, also as a result of joining Bersatu.

Anina had two months ago also withdrew all her other lawsuits made in her capacity as an Umno member.
