PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi has turned the tables on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (LGE), reminding him that he also failed to settle a court order to pay RM500.

According to Nasrudin, Lim was ordered to pay the amount by the High Court in Penang on Sept 29 to cancel the case Lim filed against him, Nasrudin.

"If we use the same logic used by LGE's special legal officer, the CM has also committed contempt of court, although the amount he has to pay is only RM500," Nasrudin said in a statement this afternoon.

"But I was not prepared to use this petty issue to disparage LGE, not as he did today through his legal officer," Nasrudin added.

Nasrudin was referring to the statement issued by Lim's special legal officer, Raja Syarafina Raja Shuib, which he said implied that he failed to comply with the High Court order on Jan 18, and refused to pay cost of RM10,000 to Lim for an offensive article published on Aug 8, 2014.

Nasrudin said although the case had been decided on Jan 18 this year, he was only notified officially, via a letter on Sept 19, which also gave him 14 days (up to Sept 28) to settle the matter.

Nasrudin said after Jan 18, LGE's lawyer was responsible for notifying him officially, and that the lawyer should take responsibility for the delay in payment.

"Once again, LGE's special legal officer has bad intentions to picture me as purposely ignoring the court order on Jan 18," he said.

Nasrudin also said civil liability does not amount to contempt of court.

It merely allows Lim to proceed with the recovery process of the RM10,000 he had yet to compensate the CM, said Nasrudin, who is the MP for Temerloh.

"My lawyer had just received the official notice of the letter of demand for recovery of the cost, which forces me to pay the new judgment cost this morning, and this came at the same time a the press statement from LGE's officer," he added.

"LGE's special legal officer should at least know that the claim for judgment cost is not contempt of court but a liability suit or judgment debt," he added.

Nasrudin said he was overseas when he received the letter from Lim, and had just returned to the country.

"I plan to pay the money as soon as I can, after I settle several important matters that have been postponed due to my trip overseas," he added.
