Despatch rider fined RM1.3k for assaulting cop
A despatch rider was fined RM1,300 or three months' jail in default by the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur today after he pleaded guilty to intentionally causing hurt to a police officer using his hands and feet, three days ago.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid imposed the sentence on R Elango Naidu, 26, who committed the offence at the Travers Police Station intersection in Kuala Lumpur at 11.17pm on Oct 8.
Elango Naidu was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail sentence of one year or fine up to RM2,000 or both.
Deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by Luqman Hakim Azhar.
In another case at the same court, a nasi lemak seller was fined RM1,000 or three months' jail in default after he pleaded guilty to committing mischief by breaking the rear windscreen of a Toyota Vios car at the Zone B parking area of the Setapak Sentral Building in Setapak in Kuala Lumpur at 9.30pm on Oct 7.
Ahmad Solihin imposed the sentence on Mohd Zaini Ariffin, 42, who was charged with committing mischief on the car belonging to Khairul Anuar Ali, 34, who suffered a loss of RM300.
