The police have detained an auxiliary police officer in connection with his alleged posting on social media on a clash between two Indonesian ethnic groups in Simunjan, about 120km from Kuching.

In the Oct 9 clash at a plantation in Gedong, the 43-year-old man claimed it resulted in the death of a person.

Sarawak CID chief Dev Kumar Sree Shunmugam said the case was being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said the man, from Kanchong, Gedong and attached to the plantation, was brought in for questioning this afternoon.

"The police would like to assure the public that the fight between the two ethnic groups at the plantation was an isolated case and that no one was killed.

"One person was injured and he has been interviewed by the police... and several arrests made," he told Bernama via WhatsApp in Kuching today.

Meanwhile, the police have detained a man in connection with seven robberies involving budget hotels in the city since early this month.

The 32-year-old suspect was nabbed at an inn in Central Park Commercial Centre, Rock Road at 12.35am early today.
