Three of several witnesses called to facilitate the 'Ops Water' investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), today voluntarily handed over about RM1 million to the commission.

A source close to the MACC investigation team said the three witnesses handed over the money to MACC while their statements were recorded, adding that all the witnesses cooperated well with the commission.

On Oct 4, MACC detained a director and deputy director of the Sabah Water Department and seized about RM114 million on suspicion of having abused their power in the granting of a project.

It was also the biggest case ever in the MACC's history.

The MACC is expected to call more witnesses to facilitate investigations.

MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Azam Baki confirmed the three witnesses handed over RM1 million to the MACC but declined to elaborate.
