Nazri: Listen to me as I’m a lawyer, Mahathir is only a doctor

Trueglitter: Umno supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, your absurd and laughable utterances would unambiguously be perceived as a shameless endeavour to project yourself as an invaluable kingmaker who alone has all the means and political wisdom and apparatus to decide on the fate of your alleged "political enemies".

However, upon closed observations through the years on your past performances as a minister, you have disappointedly unveiled yourself as an individual who is dismally lack in professional integrity and fairness, as despite the lengthy years of exposures within the BN government and as lawyer, your comprehension and analysis on political happenings, particularly on all wrongdoings of your controversial master, PM Najib Razak, you have never appropriately addressed said issue, but in fact had been vehemently and quick to condone his alleged guilt at the sheer expense by demonising the opposition for sake of theatrics and to further enhance your own self-preservation as an ongoing and mighty, faultless minister.

Pemerhati: Before 1957 and soon after independence, we had a meritocratic education system when only the best students could enter the only local university to become graduates and professionals.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad became a doctor under this system as he studied and graduated from the university in Singapore which took in students on merit.

But a lot of people who could not enter the university because of their relatively poor grades, started working as clerks, teachers, police inspectors, etc. Some of these people were able to become lawyers by passing the exams of the inns of courts in UK.

What used to happen was that they used to study and pass some of the papers locally and then go and sit for the final exams in UK while attending some compulsory dinners.

A few went directly to UK to study and became lawyers while others worked and studied there to become lawyers.

The vast majority of these lawyers were academically inferior to the graduates of the local university. Is Nazri one of them?

Mahathir alone cannot remove him, but with Allah's grace he is not alone.

Doctors are perceived by the masses as "those who make money on the suffering of the people”. In short, doctors charge patients to treat their illness/suffering.

Since the GST (Goods and Services Tax) implementation and the drop in the value of the ringgit, cost of medication, laboratory services, as well as operating cost of clinics and hospitals have all skyrocketed, increasing healthcare cost significantly.

But there are those who felt that doctors and healthcare providers are just taking this opportunity to increase cost and make a quick buck.

Hence Nazri is trying to harness the public negativity towards doctors, hence his “Listen to me as I’m a lawyer, Mahathir is only a doctor” rhetoric.

Rick Teo: Nazri, you are a half-past-six lawyer. You don’t seem to know your law.

Other than a vote by a majority of the MPs in Parliament, the PM can be removed if he commits a crime and an independent attorney-general (AG) charged him.

The problem is we don’t have an independent AG who have the guts to charge the PM for alleged embezzlement of public funds.

Therefore, is it another way of removing the PM if he was to be charged for a felony? In fact, in such a circumstance, the honourable thing for him to do is to resign and allow investigation to take its natural course.

A PM who is charged obviously cannot continue to hold the PM’s post, especially with a charge hanging over his head. So you see, Nazri, you do not know your law.

Clever Voter: Self-praise is no praise. In any revolution, lawyers would be first to be shot, and quicker if you are both lawyer and politician.

Doctors are needed to save lives, including the bad ones.

You don’t need to be a lawyer to figure this one out. Just use common sense.

Worldly Wise: Nazri, the barrister at law, must know that all power rests with the Queen. Likewise, in Malaysia, the British surrendered sovereignty back to the Malay rulers.

Oscar Kilo: Nazri, lawyers aren't exactly that highly respected. Especially if they are from Umno.

Not Convinced: Indeed, the best way to settle this row is for Nazri to agree to a live debate with Mahathir.

Vijay47: Nazri, when you announce to the world that you are a lawyer, please do so quietly - women and children also read Malaysiakini.

There are lawyers and there are lawyers, and perhaps we need to go to court to resolve your qualifications for describing yourself as a lawyer.

After all, you may have got your degree from the same place that DPM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi got his PhD from.
