Former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's son Mokhzani has resigned as the chairperson of Sepang International Circuit (SIC) after 13 years at the helm.
Mokhzani, 53, said he had been asked to leave the post which he had held since 2003, the New Straits Times reported today.
His resignation reportedly took effect on Oct 10, and no replacement has been named yet.
The SIC, which was built in 1998, achieved its most successful phase under Mokhzani's leadership.
They were named best organised race in Formula One twice during his tenure as chairperson.
Mokhzani has also proved a winner on the race track, being part of the winning trio in the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) race in 2007.
Mahathir had yesterday said that the government plans on replacing his cook, after withdrawing police escort for him.
He also alleged that his acquaintances, especially those in the business sector, were being threatened through the Inland Revenue Department.
Mahathir has been on the warpath against his former protege, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, since last year, heavily criticising Najib's administration and his brainchild, the troubled state fund 1MDB.
