Single 1MDB question from BN leaves Kit Siang shocked again

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang is yet again shocked, this time by former finance minister II Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah being the only MP from the incumbent government to submit a question on 1MDB.

"I am really shocked that not only is the 1MDB global scandal not the first item of parliamentary business, no MPs from MCA, Gerakan, MIC, or Sabah/Sarawak BN component parties dared to ask a single question about the 1MDB global scandal.

"Is it because they have got all the answers or they are blissfully convinced that the 1MDB global financial scandal is no scandal at all?" Lim asked in a statement today.

He pointed out that out of 1,283 oral questions and 543 written questions were submitted for the parliamentary sitting next week, all the questions on 1MDB were from Pakatan Harapan MPs, except for Husni's.

Husni's question, he said, was directed at the Finance Ministry, asking them to state whether 1MDB and SRC International have achieved their purpose of formation.

"This question by Husni speaks volumes.

"In fact, Husni should be answering his own question, as he was second Finance Minister until recently when he quit the cabinet when he could not stand the stress and strain of defending the indefensible in the 1MDB kleptocratic scandal," he said.

The "silence and cowardice" of the other BN MPs from raising questions on 1MDB casts doubt on whether they really love Malaysia, he said, as they seem to be immune to the shame and outrage all patriotic Malaysians feel over the infamy of Malaysia being labelled as a 'global kleptocracy'.

It is not too late, Lim said, for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to move a motion to debunk and refute the damning allegation that Malaysia has become a global kleptocracy, as the first item of parliamentary business when Parliament reconvenes next Monday.

Yesterday, Lim had said he was shocked by PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang's bill being the fourth item on the Parliament order paper for the upcoming parliamentary sitting.

Najib's brainchild 1MDB has become the focus of intensified investigations following the July civil suit filed by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) seeking to seize US$1 billion in assets believed to have been purchased by funds allegedly misappropriated from 1MDB.

Najib and 1MDB have both denied any wrongdoing in this matter and have pledged to cooperate with authorities.
