PAS leaders are not living in the world of celebrities who clamours for popularity and "likes" on social media, said its youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

Instead, Nik Abduh reportedly told participants at a dialogue session in Malacca yesterday, PAS leaders struggle to promote a better understanding of Islam among the people.

"For people to understand us, first (they) condemn us, condemn us all out.

"Kelantan has been (under PAS rule) 26 years but still (we are) being condemned," he said as quoted by PAS news organ Harakah Online.

The Pasir Mas MP reportedly said this when asked for comment on observations that social media accounts belonging to PAS leaders were less popular compared to leaders from other parties.

Elaborating, Nik Abduh said the people in Kelantan were supposedly condemned not only for being poor and also trying to make the rakyat understand bigger issues.

"These big issues, even though others also understands, but it never ends. We (PAS) have our end, there is a solution that brings about happiness on earth and in the hereafter," he said.

Although there are other ways to gain popularity, Nik Abduh said PAS leaders would not resort to tactics as employed by celebrities.

As an example, he said PAS had presented its 'Dokumen Hijau' at a time when Malaysia is faced with challenging economic times, but other parties were seen to be more vocal about the issue.

Nik Abduh, however, said PAS aimed to convince Malaysians and Muslims in particular that the solutions offered by other parties are not permanent or long lasting.

"Like when they talk about women's rights, come up with laws, protect (the rights of) women, they portray the Western (model) as being great. Greater than (struggles of) Muslim women.

"But look at the Western solution, they bash rape but they promote pre-marital sex," he pointed out.

As such, Nik Abduh said PAS has tried to make the people understand to not follow solutions by the West that appears to be great but actually promotes destruction.
