10 days for Maiwp, Mais to decide whether to intervene in Jill Ireland’s case

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has given Federal Territory Islamic Council (MAIWP) and Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) 10 days to decide whether to intervene in the case brought by Melanau Christian clerk Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill, who is seeking a declaration that she can bring in prayer materials containing the word "Allah".

This follows the Court of Appeal's decision in the Sidang Injil Borneo case which did not allow Maiwp late last month to be an intervener in the matter but allowed it to be an amicus curiae (friend of the court).

Justice Nor Bee Ariffin fixed the date after meeting representatives from Mais and Jill in her chambers.
