MCA members and aspiring candidates have been advised not to contest party posts at the upcoming party election merely for the sake of contesting.

Although the party election served as an avenue for aspiring candidates to tap opportunities, members should know that the posts come with high responsibility and commitment, its Wanita chief Dr Ng Yen Yen said.

"Offer yourself to contest if you want to serve the party. Don't just contest for the sake of wanting to get certain post or just for the sake of contesting in order to get rid of somebody," she said in a Bernama report.

No contest for six years

Ng was asked on the possible intense contest for the upcoming party election, particularly at the divisional level at the end of this month and party top leadership in August.

"After six years' absence from contest, definitely there will be some leaders who want to contest certain posts but overall I think we have to look at the positive angle," she added.

Asked on reports that deputy Wanita chief Dr Tan Yee Kew was eyeing for the Klang division chairman post, Ng said: "I only read it through the newspapers".

It has been reported that Dr Tan, the Klang MP, would challenge incumbent Teh Cheng Ying for the post.
