The Department Of Occupational Safety And Health (Dosh) will investigate a contractor over an incident when a two-metre metal pipe fell from a crane onto a vehicle in Wisma Bernama in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Dosh deputy director-general Omar Mat Piah said Dosh would investigate the incident in Jalan 1/65A, off Jalan Tun Razak under Section 17 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 which established the general duties of
an employer to persons other than their employees.

"If it is found that the risk controls are not effective, a notice will be issued..whether a stoppage or improvement notice, depending on the seriousness of the case," he told Bernama when contacted today.

Omar said the victims could also demand compensation from the main contractors.

In the incident at about 3.30pm, today, a Bernama personnel was almost killed, when a two-metre long metal water pipe fell from a crane in the condominium project area besides Wisma Bernama, on to his vehicle.

The incident took place when he was driving past the Bernama guard house to attend a meeting outside.
