A lance corporal claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur magistrate's court today for stealing a car from the Bukit Aman car park.

According to New Straits Times Online, Alias Asa Mohamed, 29, was charged with stealing a Volkswagon Vento, which was parked at Level 1A, Tower 1 of Bukit Aman between 2.50am and 4.12am on Sept 30.

He was accused of driving the car out of the parking lot.

The policeman was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motor vehicle theft, which carried a maximum seven years’ jail sentence and fine.

Deputy public prosecutor Farith Faizal told magistrate Adira Adnan that the offence was non-bailable.

The magistrate fixed Nov 22 for mention. Alias was unrepresented.

It was reported that a Proton Saga also went missing from the car park.

Two officers – a deputy superintendent and an assistant superintendent from the Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department, were stunned to find their cars missing when they returned from official duty outstation.
