Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah will be lodging another police report today over threats to her children, after her son's car was splashed with red paint.

"At 2.57am today, some rascals poured red paint over my son's car. I will be making a police report today.

"So nasty and cruel to do this to my son," she said in a WhatsApp message.

The alleged incident comes two days after Maria revealed that the death threat she received from alleged Malaysian Islamic State (IS) operatives also targeted her three sons.

The incident, which happened in the wee hours today, had purportedly occurred in Maria’s own home compound.

Meanwhile, Bersih secretariat member Mandeep Singh said the electoral reform group will submit a memorandum to Bukit Aman at 4pm today over the incidents which had occurred.

“All are invited to gather at the main gates of Bukit Aman,” he said in a statement today.

Maria on Tuesday had received the death threat via her mobile phone. The threat also included images of a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava, holding Maria, former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan and Mandeep at knife-point.

The Bersih 5 rally is slated to be held on Nov 19.

PKR: Cops must act

Meanwhile PKR has urged the police to take stern action against those involved in threatening Bersih activists saying this is a serious matter.

"The series of threats and attacks against civil society activists is becoming increasingly serious.

"With the aid of teleceommunications technology, police by right should be able to swiftly apprehend and charge those who are involved," said PKR deputy information chief Ginie Lim in a statement.

Lim added the threats against Maria and Ambiga represent an attempt to oppress women who are at the frontlines of leadership and scare other women from supporting them.

The splashing of paint, she said, was a heinous act aimed at breaking Maria's spirit from being involved in Bersih.

"Such threats clearly go against the principles in the federal constitution guaranteeing freedom of speech and assembly without fear," said Lim, urging the police to put an end to threats towards civil society, in particular against women.
