PAS has asked Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) not to use former spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat's name to encourage participation in Bersih 5.

PAS vice president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah is reported by Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia today as saying PAS members will not be fooled into going against the party's stand to stay away from the electoral reform movement's rally on Nov 19.

"That stand (of Nik Aziz) is not a fixed stand, but can change with circumstances and need not be brought up, as PAS has already made a decision at this time not to participate in Bersih 5," Mohd Amar is reported as saying.

"Therefore I feel there is no need to bring up tok guru (Nik Aziz's) views at the time and apply it to the present," the report says.

Mohd Amar said this when asked to respond to Amanah Kelantan adviser Husam Musa urging PAS to lend its support to the forthcoming rally, citing support for previous Bersih rallies from the late Nik Aziz.

""Nik Aziz said it is compulsory to attend Bersih (rallies) when he was alive.

"There are people who claim to be closer to Nik Aziz compared to me who have forgotten (this message)," Musa said at the Selangor Amanah anniversary celebration on Monday.

According to Utusan, Mohd Amar said he is confident PAS members will not attend the rally to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Bersih 5 is being organised, among others, to call for electoral reform and for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak over the growing international 1MDB scandal.

PAS leaders, who have been seen as being friendly to Umno of late, have avoided making an issue of the scandal and have distanced themselves from calls for Najib to step down.
