Red-shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos said he regretted shaking and kissing former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s hand in the past.

“If I met him now I would spit on his hand,” Jamal told his supporters at an anti-Bersih rally in Kapar, Selangor today.

He said Mahathir’s behaviour was unbecoming of an elderly statesman.

Mahathir has been on the warpath against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, accusing him of corruption.

The former premier has quit Umno to protest Najib’s leadership, and formed an opposition splinter group, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Jamal also rubbished Bersatu's role in the opposition, and in supporting the upcoming Bersih rally.

“Even with their support Bersih will not get a lot of support from the Malays,” he said.

While insisting that he is not racist, Jamal said it's likely that Bersih 5 will again be filled by ‘Cina DAP’ (Chinese DAP), who would be rude and insolent.

He was referring to an incident during Bersih 4, where rally-goers stepped on a photo of Najib and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Jati Malaysia syura council member Norman Toha urged Chinese and Indians to join the red-shirts in fighting against Bersih.

The Bersih 5 rally is scheduled to be held on Nov 19, and aims to push for Najib’s resignation, on top of clean and fair elections.
