Malaysians competing in the Dodgeball World Championships in Melbourne, Australia yesterday have won medals in both its men’s and women’s divisions.

According the championship’s official Facebook page last night, Malaysia’s women’s team edged out over Canada for its first gold medal by a razor-thin margin of 6-5, while the US team settled for bronze.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian men’s team garnered the silver medal after being defeated at the finals last night by the Canadian team. The Australian team won the bronze medal for the men’s division.

In immediate response, Malaysian Association of Dodgeball (MAD) said it hopes to bring home two gold medals next year.

“One Gold and One Silver... Next year we’ll bring back double gold. Once again we did our best and we hope we did our Malaysia proud,” it said in its official Facebook page.

The four-day championship that concluded yesterday was sanctioned by the World Dodgeball Federation and involved 12 competing teams.

Previously in April, the Malaysian men’s team was reportedly a runner-up at the Dodgeball World Cup in England, while the women’s team were among the finalists in the game sanctioned by the World Dodgeball Association (WDA).

The relatively new game entails players from two opposing teams hurling balls at each other, while avoiding being hit by their opponents.
