Former Kuala Lumpur police chief Henry Chin, 79, died at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) here due to a stroke this morning.

According to his daughter Melissa Vhin Sui Yee, 31, he was admitted to UMMC late Friday afternoon for treatment before being pronounced dead at 6.04am today.

"Our family is currently in the process of bringing the body back to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on a flight at 1.55pm tomorrow," she said when contacted by Bernama.

Melissa said her father never had health problems before this, and had come to the federal capital a few days ago to attend a meeting on Friday.

Henry served with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for over 38 years before retiring in 1993.

After his retirement, he was active in social activities and had served as a board member Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and was also vice-chairperson of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and a member of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) in Sabah.

Besides his daughter, Henry is survived by his wife, Shirley Cheng Hua Chien, 72, and a son.
